- How will emergency services gain access to my residence?
- Should an emergency arise, the first thing we do is dispatch rescue services. We then immediately begin calling the contacts on your Emergency Care Plan. You can also specify a key location on your medical information form for rescuers to use to gain entry to your home. If you are concerned about your contact people not being there in time, we recommend ordering an Acadian Medical Alert Lock Box. Backup power generators and UPS systems are another requirement that provides the monitoring center with the ability to automatically transfer from city power to generator power automatically. There are numerous requirements that a monitoring center must meet in order to hold all three of these certifications. Monitoring centers that can achieve all three of these listings are best prepared for any situation and can ensure that they will not go down and will be available to handle your emergency when you need them no matter what the circumstances are. Very few centers in the United States meet all three certifications. You should never use a non UL Listed monitoring center for any medical alert system.

- Can I speak with you through my pendant or wristband?
- Because our transmitters are designed to be worn at all times, including in the tub or shower, they do not have two way voice capabilities so you would not be able to speak with us through them. This is why our alarm console is specifically designed to provide the maximum voice range in your home. All you need to do in an emergency is speak out loud and we should be able to hear you (from 2500-3000 sq. ft. from the alarm console). However, if you activate your alarm and we are not able to speak with you we would send rescue.

- If you are on the phone connected to the unit, the medical monitoring system will disconnect your call and send the emergency signal to our monitoring station. If another phone in your house is in use, or possibly off the hook, then the console will attempt to communicate with the monitoring station but will not disconnect the call elsewhere in the house. For the first eight unsuccessful attempts, the console will sound an audible announcement "EMERGENCY." After the eighth attempt and announcement, the console continues to try and communicate with the Acadian Monitoring Center for another hour but does not sound an "EMERGENCY" announcement. If at the end of this calling sequence, the unit has still failed to communicate with the monitoring station, the console will reset.
- Should I test the unit periodically?
- The Acadian Medical Alert systems are tested monthly. This test gives Acadian Medical Alert Service the ability to know that your console is communicating with our monitoring center properly. It is also a good idea for you to test the pendant on a monthly basis.
- How large is the pendant? How can I wear it?
- The unit is very small and lightweight and can be worn as a necklace, on the wrist or with a belt clip. One of the first things our customers tell us about the transmitters compared to other transmitters is how much they like the small size. The transmitters are just over an inch tall and an inch wide. Also, the transmitter features a recessed button which helps in avoiding accidental activations.
- Is my pendant water-resistant?

- If you should accidentally set off your alarm, that's okay. Simply tell the operator who speaks to you that was a false alarm. They will disconnect and no further action will be taken. There are no additional phone charges when using the system. The Acadian Medical Alarm dials a pre-programmed toll-free number. If for any reason we cannot communicate with you, your Emergency Care Plan will be activated and rescue services will be called. Some rescue agencies do charge additional fees for false alarms.
- What is the cost to get the system?
- Acadian Medical Alert is priced for people on fixed incomes. There is no cost for the equipment. You ONLY pay for shipping and the monitoring service. The lowest cost of our base system is $24.95/month and requires payment in advance on an annual basis. There are no activation, set-up, installation, hook-up or other fees and we provide free battery replacement for the lifetime of the system. You ONLY pay for the shipping and monitoring service, which is as low as $24.95/month. There's no long term agreement and you can cancel anytime you'd like. You can increase your service plan and pay up to $32.95/month. This service comes with a Lock Box, for emergency entry into the home, text message alerts to your call list and medication reminders.
- I'd like to pay for the service for my parents, is that possible?
- This is actually one of our most common payment methods. Acadian Medical Alert Service is a great gift that offers increased independence and peace of mind. Just mention this to the Acadian Medical Alert Customer Service Representative so that we can set up the billing properly. We can bill you directly instead of billing your parents. We also offer convenient billing methods like auto credit card or auto debit to make it easier.
- Is there a long-term contract I have to sign?
- Our agreement goes month to month and you may cancel anytime you'd like. There is no long-term contract to sign. Bills are processed on the 5th of each month. If you cancel your service and we do not receive the equipment by the 5th, you will be charged for that month and each month thereafter we do not receive the equipment by the 5th of that month. See our Medical Alert Refund Policy for more information.
- Is your service covered by Insurance?
- The service is usually not covered by insurance, however it is important that you check with your insurance provider to see if they will cover your medical alarm. Some do cover the expense. If you have a claim or prescription, your medical alarm payments may be reimbursed to you by your provider. We can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
- What happens if I cancel after the first 30 days? How do I get a refund?
- If you decide to cancel your subscription, simply return the system to us and we will credit you the unused months. For example...if you purchase one of our annual monitoring plans and cancel after six months of service, we will prorate the previous six months at the monthly monitoring fee and credit you the balance.
- What happens if I don't need it for the entire year? Do I get a refund?
- Our annual payment plan is a "no risk" option for you. If for any reason you decide to cancel your subscription before it expires, simply return the system to us and we will credit you the unused months. The credit adjustment will be based on the monthly charge. For example...if you purchase one of our annual monitoring plans and cancel after six months of service, we will calculate what the monthly option rate would have been for the six months of service, and credit you the balance. That way, you'll never pay more than the monthly payment rate.
- If I decide to keep the system, what do I need to do?
- Nothing is required from you if you decide to keep the system. You have already paid in advance for the service. The annual agreement will automatically renew upon completion of the 12 months of service. A Customer Service Agent will contact you regarding continued service payment options.
- How do I cancel the service?
- If you decide you do not need the service anymore, simply contact the Acadian Medical Alert Customer Service Department at 1-877-315-2028 to cancel the monitoring service. You will have to return the equipment to Acadian in its original box. If you do not have the original packing material the equipment came in, Acadian can ship you the appropriate packing material for $15. Please mail it to:
